WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Since you began your school career in elementary school, you have been learning about Christopher Columbus and his voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. We all know the story of this hero who discovered the Americas and the soil that we live on today. However, according to ancient Natives stories they talk about a villainous, bearded, white man who landed in Latin America in 1492. They may claim that this new discovery led to the future destruction of their homeland. Could it be possible that both of these ideas about Christopher Columbus's legacy are true?
In each of your classes, you will be focusing on the overarching question: was Christopher Columbus a hero or a villain?
