Memoirs through different perspectives
This final assessment will allow for students to use their creativity to re-write the way history is learned from other perspectives. There are many variations of our world's history, especially in regards to Christopher Columbus. This assignment will allow students to take what they've learned about Columbus, critical literacy, and how history is taught, and turn it into a cohesive and creative product.
The students will be in charge of writing three miniature memoirs from different perspectives. Some different perspectives might include Columbus himself, the natives, the crew of the ship, the families of the crew, the people of Spain, etc. Each memoir will be two pages long, double spaced. This assessment will force students to recall information, interpret in an alternative perspective, and then create a memoir from it. I am giving the students a lot of creative control, and hope to see many original works!
