EXPLORATION of AMERICA
October 20th - 22nd
October 20th and 21st
Learning Target: The
learner will use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the distance traveled by C.C during
exploration given his starting and end points.
In-Class: Learners will use what they learned last week about the Pythagorean Theorem and finding distances on maps to find several distances of exploration routes traveled by Columbus. Students will work in groups and have little teacher support.

October 22nd
Learning Target: Given the hypotenuse of a right triangle,
the learner will be able to find the distance
of the other legs.
In-Class: Learners create a new Theorem that is related to the Pythagorean Theorem. They then use this theorem to find the short leg of right triangle on maps of Columbus's travels and right triangle of other kinds. This lesson is done in small groups and many student centered although I will be there for support if needed.
